Good morning,
I am the granddaughter of William Carney Phelps. Also known as "Billie Durham'. He was raised by his grandfather, Favius Durham. His mother was Isabella Durham. She was married to and then divorced James Hiram Phelps, son of Samuel Chester Phelps. After Favius Durham passed away, my grandfather moved to Arkansas to be near his mother. At that time he started calling himself, William "Bill" Phelps.

Isabella Durham Phelps married a second time to James Thompson. They had two sons, my grandfathers half brothers, Clarence Thompson and James Thompson. The Thompsons ran a store in Norman Arkansas. She died in 1945.
In 1961 my family and my grandfather went to Tennessee to see the Durham family for a visit.

I was a kid but had an interest in genealogy at that time. Uncle Everett was still alive and I asked him questions about the family. He told me that Sarah E. Durham's maiden name was Finley. I am not clear on the spelling of Finley. He told me her father was a railroad man and his first name was Matthew. I have not be able to verify it. Her nick name was "Puss". He told me Favius Durham's mother was a Hardin.
