Lucy J. Durham, age 37, appears in the household of David Durrum, age 81, and wife, Mary Durrum, age 71 in the 1860 census for Albemarle County, Virginia. There is a 2 year old child with this family, named Daniel W. Durham (b. ca 1858). Obviously David and Mary Durham are to old for Daniel to be a son - most likely a "grand-son".

The 1870 Census for Albemarle County, Virginia (Fredericksville Parish), show D. Durham (David Durham), age 95 and wife Polly (Mary), age 82 listed in the household of William Lewis, age 20. Two children - John Lewis, age 18, and Daniel W. Lewis, age 11, are also listed with this family. Not exactly sure who William Lewis is and how he connects, or why John and Daniel W. are listed with the last name "Lewis". Could be that the census taker was confused.

The 1880 census for Fluvanna County, Virginia shows Lucy Durham listed as "Lucy A Durham", age 53, and "widowed". Daniel W. Durham, age 21, is listed as "son" in this household along with John P. Durham, age 28.

It appears to me that the Daniel W. Durham, age 2 listed in the 1860 census is a child of Lucy J. Durham, daughter of David and Mary Durham. My best guess is that the children John P. Durham and Daniel W. Durham were born out of wedlock. John P. Durham is the older child and is not listed in the 1860 census which could mean that he was residing with another family member, elsewhere.

Obviously this is not 100%, because the "Lucy A. Durham", age 53 and "widowed" could still be a wife of one of David and Mary's sons, but I think this is not as likely.

In the 1930 Census for Charlottesville (Independent City), Virginia (District 5), Mildred J. Durham (female), age 11; Francis B. Durham (male), age 10; Anna H. Durham, age 7; Paul D. Durham, age 5; are all listed as "grand-children" of Daniel W. Durham and wife Lucy M.
