In the 1910 Census for Casey County, Kentucky - Sallie J. (Durham), age 32, is listed as the wife of Richard Hatter, age 30. Richard is shown as Married once, and Sallie J. is married twice. Dewit Hatter, age 13, is listed, but he is obviously from a previous marriage since Richard Hatter and Sallie had only been married for 11 years. Richard Hatter is not listed in the 1930 census living with this family, and Sallie J. is listed in the 1930 Census as "Sallie J. Durham", age 56, and still "M" married. Sallie J. (Durham)'s first marriage is listed at age 15.

Sarah J. "Sally" DURHAM and Joseph R. RANEY were married on 7 Mar 1889 in Casey County, Kentucky.^38,41 Joseph R. RANEY was born in Jun 1867 in Kentucky.⁴¹ He died about 1903 in Kentucky. Sarah J. "Sally" DURHAM and Joseph R. RANEY had the following children:
