Mrs. Effie Jane Durham, age 95, of Layell Road, passed away Friday, August 6, 2004 at Elkin Healthcare. Mrs. Durham was born May 20, 1909 in Wilkes County to Lewis & Ellen Hagens Hanks.

Mrs. Durham was a homemaker and a member of Roaring Gap Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Everett Durham.

Survivors include: her daughter, Mary Lee Layell and her husband J.W. of Elkin; a brother, Lincoln Hanks of Elkin; two grandsons, Johnny Layell, Benny Layell; two great granddaughters, Kayle Layell and Julie Benet' Layell.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 8, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Level Baptist Church by Rev. Ivan Dameron and Rev. James Hall. Burial will follow at Roaring Gap Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.
