Hey, Byron - just checked on your info - thanks so much. David was my grandmother's
father, my grandmother being Matilda Susan Durham who later changed her name
legally to Sudie May (go figure)!
The one thing that I did notice is that Ballard is listed as a son of David &
Maggie Alice's - he was actually their son-in-law, my Aunt Gertie's husband,
and
not her brother. There were just the 4 sisters, and all of them lived here in
Kingsport.
Ballard was a guard at the former Eastman Kodak in Kingsport, TN, and he &
Gertie had 3 children: Delmer, Sandy & Larry. Only Larry survives; he's about
63.
My grandmother married John Hartgrove. Of their 9 children, only my mother survives
- she is 85. Leslie "Lural" married Schley Netherland; their only child,
Doris Nelson, died just a few years ago. Addie married a much older gentleman
by the last name of Roller, and they had no children.
We had lunch Wednesday with three of my mother's second cousins; they all live
in Virginia. Their mother was a sister of Maggie Alice Bishop Durham, and they
are a great resource. I'll verify the birth & death dates of my great-aunts
and get those to you.
Did you already tell me your connection to David Durham? Mom knew that her grandfather
lived with a family in Gate City; it looks as if both his parents died when he
was very young, leaving him to fend for himself.

On the death certificate of Mary Elizabeth Durham, located in McDowell County,

Falin and David Durham, but the death certificate of their child Pearl N. Durham,
does show her father as "David Durham", and that she was born in Clinchport,
Scott County, Virginia.
