BIG STONE GAP, Va. — Worley Darwin Durham , 82, entered into the presence of Jesus on Tuesday (Oct. 20, 2009) at his home.

He was born and raised in the Crackers Neck community, lived in Hillsville, Va., for 13 years and returned to the Crackers Neck community in 1989.

He was a manager with Southern States Cooperative in Big Stone Gap and Hillsville, Va., with 30 years service.

He was a member of the Gideons while living in Hillsville. He was a U.S. Army veteran of Occupied Germany. Mr. Durham was a member of Trinity Life Center Church in Coeburn, Va.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Worley B. and Matilda Mae (Morris) Durham ; one brother, H. R. Durham ; and a sister, Mary Rose Sexton.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Georgia Etta (Sorah) Durham ; two sons, Darwin Keith Durham and wife, Pamela, of Mount Juliet, Tenn., and Jerry Wayne Durham and wife, Judy, of Big Stone Gap; one daughter, Alicia Nichelle Durham , of the home; one grandson, Jeremy Wayne Durham and wife, Alicia, of Lenoir City, Tenn.; one granddaughter, Janna Rebecca Durham of St. Petersburg, Fla.; one brother, James L. Durham and wife, Peggy, of St. Augustine, Fla.; one sister, Shirley Faye Caudill and husband, Anson, of Palm Springs, Calif.; several nieces and nephews; and special caregivers, Veronica Skidmore and Carla Sloan.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Holding Funeral Home, Big Stone Gap, Va.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the Trinity Life Center Church in Coeburn, Va. with the Rev. John McCarroll and Gary Sexton officiating.

Entombment services will follow in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of VA, P.O. Box 349, Norton, Va. 24273 or to the Trinity Life Center Church, 9829 Coeburn Norton Road, Coeburn, Va. 24230.

Holding Funeral Home is serving the Durham family.
