Earl Durham, 79, of Ceres, died Thursday, May 19, 2011. He was born June 14,
1931 in Bland County, a son of the late Elbert Cecil and Eliza Harden Durham.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virgie Durham; two brothers, Randolph Durham
and Steve Bird; and stepfather, Ward Bird. He loved gardening and starting plants
for his neighbors and friends. He loved people. He was a member of Zion United
Methodist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Cindy and John Umbarger of Ceres, Connie Harris
of Marion, and Terresa and Bill Strock of Blountville, Tenn.; 5 grandchildren;
8 great-grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; and 5 step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at Zion United Methodist Church in Nebo with
the Rev. Will Shelton and the Rev. Jimmy Britton officiating. Interment followed
in Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery. Highland Bland Funeral Chapel, Bland,
was in charge of arrangements.

Virgie Lucille Durham, 70, of Ceres, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004.
Funeral service will be at the Zion United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ruth
Ann Henley officiating. Interment will be in the Zion United Methodist Church
Cemetery. She was born in Wythe County. She was a member of the Zion United Methodist
Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Herman and Annie Corvin
Bishop; and four sisters.
Survivors include her husband, Earl Durham; three daughters and sons-in-law,
Cindy and John Umbarger of Ceres, Connie Harris of Marion, and Terresa and Bill
Strock of Bland; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren,
four step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Walter Bishop of Watertown, Ky.,
and George Bishop of Wytheville; and several nieces and nephews.
Highland Funeral Service Bland Chapel in Bland is in charge of the arrangements.
