Garnet Roy Strock

Garnet Roy Strock, 84, of the Crandon community in Bland County, Va., died Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at the Wythe County Community Hospital, Wytheville, Va.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 13, at 2 p.m. at the A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home, White Gate, Va., with Pastor James Conley officiating. Burial will be in the Mechanicsburg Cemetery, Mechanicsburg, Va.

He was born Dec. 20, 1919, at Crandon, Va. He was raised by his grandparents, Charles Alfred and Minnie Mitchell. He was retired from Bland Correctional Center and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Zachariah Whitten and Hassie Victoria Mitchell Strock; and two brothers, Wilbur S. "Bud" Strock, and Sidney C. "John Davey" Strock.

Survivors include his wife, Nell Durham Strock; three sons and daughters-in-law, Donnie and Wendy Strock of Dublin, Va., Dickie Strock of Bland, Va., and Randy and Mary Anne Strock of Fredericksburg, Va.; one daughter, Patty Strock of Bland, Va.; three brothers, Harry Strock, Bobby Strock and Billy Stock, all of Bland, Va.; four sisters, Thelma Booker of Mt. Airy, N.C., Betty Munsey of Bland, Va., Doll McPeak and Mary Lou Toothman, both of Front Royal, Va.; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Friday, March 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home.
