Durham is a son of Isaac and Nancy Durham found in the 1850 Census for Edgefield County, South Carolina. More research is needed. It is HIGHLY likely.

Email message from Diane Preston to Byron Durham

My father's maternal great grand father was MJ Durham...also known as Manon Jefferson Durham , who was born 12 May 1836,in S. Carolina. We think his parents were Isaac Miles Durham and Nancy . MJ Durham moved to Texas in 1861 (approx.) and was said to be a manufacturer of pottery in Guadalupe County in the 1866 tax rolls and in the US Census of 1870. I think he is listed in 1850 as "Marion" . How does this match other research?

Much of the information I have is from his widow's( Milley Davis Durham ) application for a CSA pension in 1898 . She also states that they married in 1853 in N Carolina,which was her home state. I have, also, some notations in the Durham family Bible which my grandmother, Helen Bowen had from her mother, Lillie Mae Durham Bowen, M.J. Durhams daughter. Unfortunately, I have been unable to find MJ's death certificate or place of burial.
