WESTFIELD, NC (Brown Mountain Community) ~ Mr. Reid Hickman Simmons, 97, of Simmons
Road passed away Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at his home. He was born Oct. 16, 1903,
in Stokes County to James William and Annie Nunn Simmons. Mr. Simmons was a retired
farmer and a member of Faith Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Helen Vaden of Westfield; four sons and daughters-in-law,
Gilmer and Grace Simmons and Johnnie and Inez Simmons of Westfield, Jimmy and
Linda Simmons and Hickmon and Judy Simmons of Pilot Mountain; 12 grandchildren;
23 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Ella
Ball of Westfield, Ethel Carter of Greensboro and Verta Simmons of Walnut Cove.
Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by his wife, Hallie Mae Durham Simmons; a daughter,
Jacqueline Boaz; and a grandson, Greg Simmons.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, at Brown Mountain
Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Richard Jones, the Rev. Darrell Price and
the Rev. Rick Sewell. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family
will receive friends at Cox-Needham Funeral Home in Pilot Mountain from 7 to
9 Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, and other times at Mr. Simmons' home on Simmons Road,
Westfield. The Simmons family is being served by Cox-Needham Funeral Home in
Pilot Mountain.
