CHILTON PILOT MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Dollie Marie Pyrtle Durham Chilton, 93, of Pilot
Mountain, N.C., went to be with the Lord, on Monday, May 12, 2008, at NC Baptist
Medical Center. She was born in Stokes County on June 21, 1914, to the late James
Osborne and Daisy Adams Pyrtle. Marie worked as a beautician for years, and was
the past President of the PTA for Nancy Reynolds School, she was also a member
of the Republican Women' s Club, an adult leader for the 4-H Club, and a member
of Rockhouse Primitive Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son, Donald Durham of Pilot Mountain, two daughters, Betty
D. Gwyn of Mount Airy, and Dolly M. Durham of Greenville, S.C., 15 grandchildren,
and 16 great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren. Preceding her
in death were her parents, two husbands, James Graham Durham, and John Coe Chilton,
two sons, James G. Durham, Jr., and Bobby R. Durham; and one infant granddaughter,
Betty Marie Gwyn.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., today, May 14, 2008, at Rockhouse
Primitive Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Thursday,
May 15, 2008, at Rockhouse Primitive Baptist Church with Elders J.H. Keaton,
Rodney Marshall, and Joey Jenkins officiating. The service with interment will
follow at the Pilot Mountain City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Sticht
Center on Aging and Rehabilitation, WFUBMC, Medical Center Blvd., Winston-Salem,
NC 27157, c/o Valar McClellan in Marie D. Chilton' s memory, or in floral tribute.
Cox-Needham Funeral Home is assisting the Chilton family.
