Deed between Elizabeth Durham and Cornelius Hart - 24 Jan 1818

This indenture made this 24th day of January in the year of Eighteen hundred and Eighteen between Cornelius Hartt of the one part and Elizabeth Durham of the other part witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of sixty three dollars to Corn Hartt in hand paid by said Elizabeth Durham & the said Corn Hart covenant & agree to lease to said Elizabeth Durham Forty acres of Land lying on the North side of Peters Creek including the improvement where Corn Hartt now lives which Land & Tenament the said Elizabeth Durham is peaceably to posess during hte Term of Twenty Years or During her natural life at which time said Hart may take in possession the same tenament again by paying of the hiers of said Elizabeth Durham the above mentioned sum of sixty three and the said Cornelius Hartt binds my self my heirs & to Elizabeth Durham her living & to comply with every condition of the above contract in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal the day & date above written.

A deed from Conelius Hart & Elizabeth Durham is proved in open court by the oath of Wm A. Lash who proved that William Boyles & Wm Bardwill that who are living withness thereto are dead & that he said Lish is well acquainted with the hand writing of said Boyles having often seen him write and of his writing and that the signature of said Boyles to said deed is his own proper hand writing whereupon it is ordered by the court that the said deed be registered.
