Hi David,
I took the information you gave me - especillay the name of the children and thought there must be a death certificate somewhere that would have both - Jesse Poore and Myrtle Hendricks name on it. Although Virginia still doesn't offer their birth certificates online, North Carolina does at Ancestry.com, which I am a member of.

I searched for any children with the last name Poore and with the father named Jesse and this is what I got:

Roy Lee Durham
born 6 Feb 1906, Patrick County, Virginia
Occupation: Welder
died 26 July 1944 Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, North Carolina
buried in Waughtown Cemetery (Forsyth County, NC)
Parents listed as:
Father: Jesse Poore, b. NC
Mother: Myrtle Hendrix, b. NC
Informant at death listed as "Mrs. R. Lee Poore" of Winton-Salem, NC.

I will try and forward the death certificate to you through email. There may be other children.

Thanks,
Byron K. Durham

Hi Byron, In a family history letter, written by Grace Lillian Hendricks (a niece of Myrtle F. Hendricks), there is a single entry which states that Myrtle married a Jesse Poore - no dates but there are some census records that show Jesse M. Poore and his parents and later, Myrtle and her kids :

------------------------------------------ Jesse M. Poore shows in the 1880 Patrick county census with his family :

[family # 377, Dan River District]
377 Samuel Poor W M 42 Farmer North Carolina [This is Samuel D. Poor, b. 1838] Mary W F 40 Wife Keeping house North Carolina [b. 1840]
Cora Bell W F 12 Daughter At School North Carolina [b. 1868]
Jesse M. W M 9 Son At School North Carolina [b. 1871]
Mary T. E. W F 6 Daughter At School North Carolina [b. 1874]
Joseph A. W M 4 Son North Carolina [b. 18 Nov 1875 - d. 1 Jan 1962] Oakdale Cemetery, Surry Co., NC
Samuel M. W M 2 Son North Carolina [b. 16 Aug 1879 / d. 03/15/1952] Oakdale Cemetery, Surry Co., NC

------------------------------------------ In the 1910 Census of Patrick County,Va Myrtle Poore (a widow, 35) is living with parents, Richard and Mary Victoria (Deatherage) Hendricks, and her children : Maude F. (18 yrs) Jesse W. (16 yrs) Roy L. (11 yrs)

------------------------------------------ Extrapolating from the ages of the children, Jesse & Myrtle must have been married during the 1890's but, Jesse M. Poore is not found on any of the existing census reports after 1880.

In the 1920 census, Myrtle's mother,Mary Victoria Hendricks, is no longer listed; Richard and Myrtle are shown in a single Hendricks household. There is a land transfer deed dated July 2, 1921 on file at the Patrick county court house that shows Catherine ('Kate') Deatherage granting 24.5 acres of land along Clark's Creek to Myrtle F. Poore provided that Myrtle agrees to support Catherine for the rest of her life. Myrtle was Kate's niece.

Myrtle died in 1926 and is buried at Center Presbyterian Church on Long Branch Road (route 668); her headstone is inscribed, "Myrtle F. Poore Nov. 10, 1873 - Oct. 5, 1926 At Rest".

So ... I'm coming up short on trying to track Jesse M. Poore. If you come across anything that describes him, I'd be grateful for any info.

Thanx,
Dave Deatherage
