Gladys Durham Thompson
(September 5, 1919 - May 1, 2012)

Gladys Thompson, 92 , of Charlottesville, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at home, surrounded by her loving family. Born on September 5, 1919 in Pocahontas, Virginia , she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Lillie V. Knuckles Durham. She was also predeceased by her first husband Woodrow Hixon, and her second husband Fred Thompson.

Gladys was a longtime member of Mount Olivet United Methodist Church. She retired from Sperry Marine after 21 years of service. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Survivors include daughter Mary Rasnake and her fiancé Vernon Mays; two grandchildren Terry W. Rasnake and his fiancée Myrtle Vernon, and Katie M. Rasnake; and great-granddaughter Abigail Rasnake; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, May 3, 2012 in the Hill and Wood Chapel, with the Pastor Larry Hudson officiating. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 from 7:00 until 8:00pm at the funeral home. Her family extends a special thank you to Hospice of the Piedmont and to Shatara Wheeler for their compassionate care.
