15. Sarah J. DURHAM was born about 1848 in Mount Airy, Surry County, North Carolina.^1,4,12 It is not 100% proven that George Wiley (Hicks) Durham and May E. (Margaret L.) Durham are children of Sarah J. Durham. I place them with Sarah until new evidence can be found. It's possible these are children of Nancy Durham".

James F. Hicks was a widower with two small children: Isaac Hicks, b. 1856, and living in the home of James M. Elliott; and George W. Hicks. b. 1869 living in the home of Sarah J. Durham. James F. Hicks, s/o E. & E. Hicks, md. (2) Mollie C. Wright, d/o C. & O. Wright, on 2/1/1874.] (George W. Hicks is later listed in 1880 as a "grandson" of William H. Durham and wife, Phoebe.

George and May are listed as "grandchildren" of William and Pheobe in the 1880 Census for Tazewell County, Virginia. George Wiley Durham is also listed as "nephew" in the household of "Henderson Durham" and wife Mary in the 1880 Census for Tazewell County, Virginia.

In the 1880 census George W. is listed as a "Durham" and listed as "grandson" to William H. and Phebe Durham. Also, during the 1880 census George Wiley is living with Henderson (Warren) and Mary Durham. He is listed as "nephew".
