Durham" just a few days earlier in the census.)

This deed made the 28th day of September 1891 between J. W. Maxwell and Parmelia A., his wife, of the first part and Jane Durham of the second part all of the County of Tazewell in the State of Virginia witnessed that the said J. W. Maxwell and Parmelia A., his wife, in consideration of fifty dollars, grant, bargain, and sell unto the said Jane Durham a certain lot of land containing 68 3/4 Poles more or less and bounded as follows: Beginning on a state on the North line of Dickens'? land and with the same N87 W13 Poles & 17 links to a stake in a line of the N & W RR Co., and with the same N5 , E8 to a stake N56, E5 Poles, 13 links to a stake thence leaving said Railroad line S27 E10 Poles and 18 links to the beginning and said J. W. Maxwell and Parmelia A., his wife, wereto, ____ the land hereby, conveyed witnesseth the following signature and seal the above date written.

This deed made the 5th Day of October 1895, between Jane Durham and W. H. Durham, her husband, of the first part and James R. Puckett of the second part, witnessed: That for and in consideration of the sum of Five Hundred Dollars, paid and to be paid as follows: $50 cash in hand paid, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, and the residence of One Hundred and Fifty Dollars to be paid in equal installments of $25 every three months, thereafter, until the whole of the purchase money is paid. A vendors lien is hereby retained on the property therein conveyed to secure the payment of the unpaid purchase money above mentioned. The parties of the first part do grant, bargain, sell and covey unto the party of the second part, with covenants of general warranty a certain lot of parcel of land containing 68 3/4 Poles more or less in the county of Tazewell, Virginia, at Maxwell Station, and bounded as follows: Beginning on a stake on the North Line of Dr. Gross Line and with the same N 87 W 13 Poles & 17 links to a stake in a line of the N & W RR Co. and with the same N 51 E Poles to a stake N56 E 5 Poles and 13 links to a stake, thence leaving said Railroad Line S27 & 10 Poles & 18 Links to the beginning. Being the same land conveyed to the said Jane Durham by J. W. maxwell and wife, by deed dated September 28, 1891 and recorded in the Clerk's office of Tazewell County Court in Deed book No 38 Page ___.
