In the 1880 Census for Baxter County, Arkansas (Independence - District 6),
Elizabeth Durham, age 60 and born in South Carolina, is listed as "Mother"
in the household of J. Wilson Durham, age 28 (b. Alabama) and wife, Josephine,
age 21 (b. Arkansas).
In the 1900 Census for Hall County, Texas (Justice Precinct 2 - District 9),
Josie Hudgins, age 3 and Maggie Hudgins, age 1, are listed as "grand-daughters"
of John W. Durham and wife Josie (Josephine). There is also a "Nathaniel
W.", age 22, listed as "nephew" in this household, but I believe
Nanthaniel W. Durham may be a "grand-son". "N. W. Durham",
age 12, appears in the household of William H. Durham, b. 1880 - Arkansas, with
wife Lena, and another son - Joe, age 9. William H. Durham is a son of John
Wilson Durham and wife Josephine.

John Wilson Durham
John Wilson Durham, a pioneer of Hall County, died December 22, 1945. Funeral
services were held at the First Presbyterian Church in Memphis, Texas, on December
23. The Rev. H. L. Peacock, assisted by the REV. R. E, Yarbrough of the First
Methodist Church in Memphis conducted services.
Mr. Durham was born in Alabama November 27, 1853. He was the son of Steven Durham
and Elizabeth Morton. He was married in 1877 to Araminta Josephine Messick in
Arkansas (Mountain Home?) The Durhams had six children. Mrs. Durham died in 1930.
Preceding Mr. Durham in death were his children Mrs. Margaret Durham Hudgins
and Robert W. Durham.
Mr. Durham was survived by four children: Henry Durham of Lakeview, Tessie Smith
of Memphis, Ella Upton of Lubbock, and Atta Mae Nash of Azle, and also by seven
grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Mr. Durham was truly a pioneer of this county and community, coming here December
15, 1890, and settling near Lakeview. He helped build the first church at Lakeview,
which was built where the tabernacle in Union Hill Cemetery now stands. He rode
the community taking subscriptions for the building of the church. He hauled
lumber and boarded the carpenters, and worked himself on the building until it
was completed. The first service in the new church was a Thanksgiving service.
The building was completed but there were no pews, so Durham brought chairs from
his house.
Mr. Durham was a man of this word, paid his debts, and had the confidence of
his fellow man. He believed that honesty and integrity were the highest principles
of manhood. He helped his friends in time of sickness and distress, worked hard
and enjoyed his work, and was active until about two years before his death.
Pallbearers were Clifton Burnett, Barney Burnett, John L. Burnett, Paul Smith,
Bud Godfrey, and W. M. Wolf. Burial was in Union Hill Cemetery at Lakeview.

She died Exhaustion - Paralysis on 19 Mar 1930 in Memphis, Hall County, Texas.81 Buried in Lakeview, Texas.
