My name is Roger Eades. I am the great-grandson of Tyler B. Eades who was the youngest
brother of Miles Anderson Eades. I thought you might find the following true stories of interest:

Tyler's' youngest son was J.B. Eades, born June 1898, in Pickens County, S.C. J.B. was my grandfather and was a pioneer preacher in the Church of God in South Carolina. Tyler and his wife, Minnie, were charter members of the first Church of God in S.C. in a small town in the northwest corner of the state called Wahalla. The church came out of the Methodist faith and the old Eades family was faithful Methodists. The community did not take well to these bunch of Pentecostal 'Church of God' folk because they spoke in tongues and danced 'in the spirit.' The first church was burned in front of the congregation in 1915. Since arson was illegal, the mob tore the building down log by log and piled them up and set fire to them. (It was legal to do it this way.) The church was continued in a brush arbor and when J.B. Eades was called to preach, he would later pastor this same church.

During one of the services, a man who lived in the area came walking into church with a bag containing a rattlesnake. He told my grandfather that if he had the faith that he claimed, he would pick up the snake. (The man had his denominations wrong.) Anyway, my grandfather reached into the bag, pulled the snake out and held it up for the congregation to see. Then he held the snake out to the man and said, "Now it's your turn." The man made a hasty retreat and 'Granddad', as we called him, walked outside and turned the snake loose. TRUE STORY!!!

In 1936 Granddad had appendicitis. He firmly believed in the healing power of God and refused to see doctors. His condition got worse and his weight went from 250 lbs to 135lbs. His body turned black and his brother, Dewitt, came to see him and to try to get him to a doctor. Granddad refused and Dewitt told my grandmother that he was going into town to make funeral arrangements for his brother. That night, after midnight, Granddad lay at the point of death. My grandmother began to pray and then she reached out and picked up my Granddad's guitar and began to walk around the bed and play and sing and praise the Lord. Suddenly, Granddad's side burst open and literally gallons of poison came flowing out of his body. He fell into a deep sleep and Grandma cleaned him up and she went to bed.

The next morning Granddads' brother came back thinking he would pick up his brothers body and take it to the undertaker. Instead he found him outside rebuilding the engine on his Model T Ford.

Granddad died in 1972, but I remember vividly him pulling up his shirt to show the 'surgical' scar on his side where he said God operated on him to remove his appendix.

Granddad NEVER saw a doctor in his whole life! TRUE STORY!!!!!!!
